Hello and thank you for visiting my web site.
My name is Colin Whitelaw, an Ayrshireman with over 40 years experience playing in pipe bands. I started with The Burgh of Ardrossan Pipe Band then Ayr Pipe Band Society and for a short time was Pipe Major; this is when I played for H.M. the Queen at a Civic Reception in the Town Hall. The next Band was Black Bottle Scotch Whisky (later became David Urquhart Travel) then House of Edgar, Shotts and Dykehead and thereafter Strathclyde Police Pipe Band all of whom were Grade 1 Bands.
I have played with these bands at many high profile engagements over the years. Black Bottle (David Urquhart) on stage with Bon Jovi, at Ibrox Stadium with Shotts. I played at the Celtica festival in Nantes in France, in Orlando at Central Florida Highland Games and on The Hogmanay Live show, on various occasions at Edinburgh Castle and the BBC Studios in Glasgow. I played at Hampden Park and in Princess Street Gardens and down the Royal Mile at the Millennium with David Urquhart Travel Pipe Band.
I have played all over the U.K. at many major championships and at Glasgow Green at the World Pipe Band Championships and memorably outside Turnberry Hotel for the BBC when Steve Ryder said "There's something blowing outside the Hotel " the year Nick Price won. There have been many highlights and great memories over the years and I've been privileged to meet and play for a lot of nice people along the way.
On the practical side, I have a large selection of uniforms and tartans so that it's likely I'll either match your own tartan or have something that is complimentary. I'm always in full No.1 uniform unless otherwise requested and I have reliable transport. I've appointed the well respected agency, Hireaband to look after my admin and booking paperwork; they're legendary for their attention to detail and as a result you're guaranteed a straightforward service. I've never missed or even been late for an event in the 40 years I've been performing. I'm a full time professional piper with no day jobs or other obligations to prevent me performing for you anywhere in Scotland, the rest of the United Kingdom or overseas.
I'm very regularly booked for weddings, corporate and private events, memorials, Burns events, in fact any occasions that requires the exciting and emotional sound of the highland bagpipes. Another major string to my bow, and something that is incredibly popular is my ability to address the haggis for Burns suppers or at any event where the great Chieftan o the puddin' race is being savoured.
If you're getting married, I'll be happy to pipe you in to your service, greet you and your guests as you leave and be at the reception venue as your guests arrive. I'll also pipe in the top table if required and if you have a haggis course you can leave the address to me.
I hope you find this information useful. You can get an instant quote and availability right here on this site, but if you'd prefer to talk to a human being, then please contact Gaye@hireaband.co.uk 0141 413 4060 who'll answer all your questions and arrange a call with me as soon as possible (I'm usually out piping or practicing and you just can't hear a phone over bagpipes).
